Known as the Sculptor of Light, René Lalique was a notable figure in the world of design, jewelry and fashion in Paris —and soon the world— spanning both the Art Deco and Art Nouveau eras. Perhaps best known today for the luminous artistry of his art-glass creations, he designed jewelry for legendary 19th Century actress Sarah Bernhardt, created the first designer perfume bottle (for Coty), and, fueled by his passion for the Orient, decorated the Peace Hotel in Shanghai.
