If only they’d had the foresight to create jewelry.
Artist Pilar Olaverri takes their architectural
vision and runs with it straight to the catwalk.

Taking veganism to the ultimate extreme, designer Raven Kauffman has created a facsimile of alligator skin out of… rubber. Totally unexpected and expertly crafted, these metallic clutches are just the right size for hitting the town, and just the right material to earn your friends’ envy. Kauffman calls them Everyday Exotics. We call them genius. Carry a pyrite or black gold version with basic head-to-toe black to add some texture, 3-dimensional drama, and light to your look. Up to you whether or not to reveal its true substance to your green-eyed gaggle of girlfriends.

There are a few accessories every hostess must possess: a champagne bucket, an amazing serving tray, and an attitude. We can’t provide the latter, but when it comes to the former, we’ve got a few tricks up our sleeves. L’Objet’s Bamboo line of barware is our latest obsession. Handcrafted from stainless steel with 24K gold-plated bamboo handles, the pieces are as artistic as they are utilitarian. You can just imagine your guests’ delight when you walk out carrying these silver beauties laden with Veuve, triple-frozen ice, and mini quiches.

Is silver, especially when it’s hand-crafted to exploit its imperfections. This double-cuff and drop earrings, both by Citrine by the Stones, take the metalwork traditions of the Andes and bring them to the urban woman. We love the way the scuffs and chinks are not buffed over, but take center stage in the bracelet. Paired with a slithering snake ring — black and white and sparkly allover — by Vivre, the look is complete. Mix loads of silver accessories with whatever is lurking in your closet, and you’ll give those old looks a fresh edge. Silver? It goes with everything.

Here they are, the ultimate accessories for your inner goddess: the Nefertiti cuff and necklace, by our friends at Theodora & Callum. The gold-plated pewter gives the pieces a depth and richness so desired by divine royalty (right?), and those swirling lines call to mind the Gods of Wind and Sea (although Nefertiti herself worshipped only one God, the Sun Disk). There’s ongoing debate as to whether or not the king’s consort ruled after Akhenaten’s death and before the rise of Tutankhamun. Whatever. You’ll rule with these golden signifiers of strength.

Avoid having to answer the question, “What’s your sign?” by the dullard at the bar. Instead you can don one of these pendants — then just flash your zodiac and a see-you-later grin. Created by Jessica Kagan Cushman, whose statement cuffs have graced the wrist of many a red-carper walker, these starry resin disks are emblazoned with crystals and hung by a cotton cord finished with a golden tip. And, naturally, they come in twelve distinctive signs. Wanna throw off the scent of that man on the make? Wear a few and he’ll never know what hit him.

When you want it done right, you’ve got to do it yourself. At least, that was the case when it came to finding the perfect laptop bag. Vivre founder Eva couldn’t find one, so she made one. Crafted from chocolate-brown leather with a textured pebble pattern, it’s a streamlined look that’s meant to unburden your bag from heavy machinery. The zips open up 180 degrees, so you can whip out your presentation in a flash. And there’s a little extra room for extra flash (as in, drive), should you need it. Designed for the road warrior with stylistic integrity.

Can’t find a pressie for your mother-in-law? Your sister? Your amazing assistant? Wrap her up in this Aztec blanket-inspired scarf. Because its geometric patterns give it an ethnic vibe. Because a woman can always use another wrap to throw in her bag (those movie theaters can get cold). And because she certainly doesn’t have it. Designed by newly-launched (but already cult) Theodora & Callum — the “extras” line by Stefani Greenfield (Scoop) and Desiree Gruber (Project Runway) — this accessory quickly turns a boring trench into something singular. And it always comes in a size that fits.
